The charts in
the corner are ready for the
first week of school. The
reading vocabulary words,
classroom goals, reading
strategies charts, hundred
chart, science vocabulary words,
ice cream cone jobs chart,
spelling words, and math
vocabulary words are up. |
Our globe
and musical animals are now
on the cart in the back of
the room. Also all of
the cubbies are empty and
ready for you to hang your
coats, book bags, and lunch
boxes. You will each
have your own cubby. |
Our classroom
library is now full of
books. The books are all
labeled for AR. The
first bookcase is mostly
science books. I have
many baskets of books still on
the shelves above the cubbies.
I love books! I still
need to bring in our window
plants. They have really grown
over the summer. |
My daughter,
Jennifer, gave me the
tall lucky bamboo plant last
year and one of my other
daughters, Jessica, gave me
the other bamboo plant this
year. The tall plant was as
short as the shorter plant a
year ago. It grew a lot last
year. Bamboo plants are suppose
to be lucky. I
hope they like being in our
classroom. Behind the plants
by the white board are
Echo Owl and our birthday
flowers. The
yellow folders on the desk are
our Morning Meeting folders.
Each of you will have one to
use for Morning Meeting
time.The lunch choices will be
posted on the front of my desk
and the blue chart to show
your lunch choice is hanging
from the desk next to my desk.
|
I put new curtains
on the top windows with black-out
material behind them. I also
added black-out material behind
the curtains in the middle.
One of my sons helped me put them
up. He had to climb a high
ladder to put them up. Now we will
be able to see our projector
better and not have the glare on
the white board.
Did you notice that the curtains
in the middle row in the center
are a different pattern? Those
curtains have been in my classroom
for 40 years.
|
This is our
listening center. We have
books with tapes or CDs in this
area. The tapes are on the left
side and the CDs are on the
right. The green folders are
our AR(Accelerated Reader)
folders. Every time you earn a
point you color in a square. Do
you think you can earn 100 points
by end of the year? Will you be
the first second grader to be in
the "Million Words" Club? the
brown boxes under the table hold
our tissue boxes, paper towels,
plastic bags, and wipes.
|
The desk are now
arranged in groups of 6 or 7. By
grouping the desks we have a little
extra room to move around our
room. It also means you have
to work a little harder at
remembering to control your
talking during work-time. I know
you can do it! Each group has a
supply cart of materials for that
group.
Your new math journal, reading
workbook, and personal word wall
are on your desk. Your hard cover
books are already in the desks. I
need to make the name tags and
finish your Open House folders
before Open House on Thursday.
|
I put a poem about
going back to school using cute
pictures of mice in the
hall. Don't forget about
Open house on Thursday, August
20th from 6:00 - 7:00 P.M. During
Open House you can visit our
classroom, show your parents
around the school, and meet our
new principal, Mrs. Burzanko. You
may also bring your school
supplies and put them in your
desk. I hope you will be able to
attend. I am excited about meeting
you and your family. |
